Abstract. The aim of the experiment was to determine the effect of planting date (spring, autumn) and method (seedling, direct sowing) on the yield quantity and quality of Italian chicory radicchio, cv. Palla Rossa 3. The marketable yield of radicchio heads ranged from 1.28 to 4.75 kg per m2.

Summary
The aim of the experiment, conducted during the years 2005 to 2006, was to determine the yield and nutritive value of Italian chicory radicchio, cv. Palla Rossa 3, as affected by planting date (spring, autumn) and method (seedling, direct sowing). The sowing and planting of greenhouse seedling were carried out simultaneously, i.e. on April 26-27 in the spring and on July 31 – August 1 in the autumn. The marketable yield of radicchio grown in the spring was by over 31% higher. The yield of plants obtained from seedling was by over twofold higher, compared with direct sowing.
